Mother's Day

My first official Mother's Day. I say "first official" because The Colonel has always given me cards and gifts on Mother's Day from our puppies. I guess that's why he didn't really see this Mother's Day as very different. Don't get me wrong, I got 2 very nice cards from him, Lil Major and the puppies. And he finally agreed to get new furniture, which is what I'd been asking for for Mom's Day.

So, our day wasn't all that different. In fact, I had to remind him it was Mother's Day when I wanted a nap and the baby was fussy. We went to church with my parents, then we headed to a restaurant we'd tried before that I had really liked. It's a South American steakhouse. Too bad our food wasn't as good this time as the last time. We'll try it again though.

Then we headed over to Sam's Club to pick up the furniture I'd picked out. The stuff we had was 9 years old, and The Colonel had helped me pick it out when we were dating. The dogs had taken it over, and it wasn't very comfortable to me to sit and feed the baby. So, I found this great set at Sam's...5 pieces - couch, 2 chairs and 2 ottomans. And the price was right. BUT, when we got there, the only one left was the display set. So, Discount Sally (more about that later on) reared her head, and I left the store with the perfectly-fine display set for 15% off the already good price. Woo Hoo!

Here are a couple pictures of it...as you can see, the puppies have already laid claim...but I'm working on that.

The rest of the day was spent trying to catch up on sleep. We had 2 very short nights with our fussy gassy babe. None of us got much sleep, so we took naps, and did our best to get to bed early. We've had a few better nights, including Lil Major going 4 1/2 hours between feedings once. I just wish he didn't want that 5am feeding, because after he goes back down at 6am, he wakes up at 7:30 and seems to be ready for the day. Grr. But, I'm getting used to this no sleep thing, as scary as that sounds.

I hope all of you had a great Mother's Day. I'll have to lay out my expectations more clearly next year. =)

I think laying out very clear expectations is definitely the way to go if you don't want to be disappointed. We always planned lunch and gave gifts to my mom on Mother's Day. SO, I assumed that is what all families did....until I was dating M. During a phone conversation, on Mother's Day, I asked him what he was going to do for Mother's Day and he said he was probably going to go to his mom's house for tacos. As in, SHE was going to cook tacos for HIM! I was shocked. So, when we got pregnant, I carefully explained how we did M Day in our house growing up and that I expected my M Days to be more like the ones I was used to than the ones he was used to. I also explained that I would not be preparing any meals that day, as it would be "my" day to relax and do nothing. He must have listened, because he did very well.
Oh, and love the furniture!

Yeah, after 10 Mother's Days...I sort of don't have to lay out my expectations as much, because we sort of have set traditions now (that I sorta established!). Whatever. :) So...maybe eventually he'll catch on a little more. (Kinda takes the pressure off of Father's Day though, you know?) :)

I went to OK for Mother's day, I had a wedding and a good friend of mine was in a car accident so I spent some time at th hospital with her.
I remember those nights of no sleep, it does get better. I never thought it would. Hang in there. Give Jackson a kiss from us...

LOve the new furniture and the bargain!!!
Mother's Day preferences definitely need to be repeaed quite often before "they" get the hint. LOL I like what someone above me said about how it takes the pressure off of father's day hahaha
Happy belated "First" Mother's Day!
