The BIG Secret

Ok, the cat is out of the bag, so I can spill my guts now...

But first...a summary of my day...I'm teaching a class at work this week, or actually I'm facilitating a continuous improvement event...and that means that I'm exhausted!! I did this at my last job, too, and I love to do it because I get to act like a teacher and lead my own team. The problem is that it involves LOTS of prep work, and the days are already long (I tell my classes to expect 10 hour days, but I have to get there early to set up and stay late to clean up every day), AND I'm doing it by myself...in the past, I've had a partner.

Anyway, I left the house at 9am today, and I walked back in at 9:25pm...so, here I sit, tired, but too wound up to sleep, a glass of pinot noir in front of me trying to catch up on blogs AND work on the presentation for my event on Friday. Oh yeah, and the secret...

7 of my 9 Buddies (click here and here to find out more about them) are coming to see me this weekend!!! I'm so excited!!! It was a secret because part of the reason they're coming is for a surprise trip for one of the girl's 30th birthday. There was about a 5% chance that the Birthday Girl would stumble upon my blog before the secret was revealed, and I didn't want to spoil the fun.

The 7 Buddies are arriving on 4 different flights (& 4 different airlines!) from Friday afternoon until Saturday afternoon...in Kansas City. So, since I always end my week at noon on weeks I teach these classes, I've got to be in my car heading out of town by noon on Friday. And I can't wait!! We've got a weekend of fun scheduled in KC and then it's back home to show them my new digs. I have to borrow mattresses and futons so everyone has somewhere to sleep at my house!

The craziest part of all of this is that it started out that 2 girls were going to come see me. Then we thought that our Buddy in Indiana could probably find cheap tickets to KC, so we asked her if she wanted to come. She said yes! Then, as a joke (because 10 girls planning anything -- especially last minute, is tough enough), I asked if anyone else wanted to come. To my BIG amazement, another Buddy emailed back and said yeah, that might work...and we started talking...and it turned into this Birthday trip...and everyone except for 2 Buddies are coming! We have been joking that it wouldn't have worked out this well if we'd started planning this back in December!

See, we get together every December for a weekend away, and we have to start planning it in July or August! But, this trip came together somehow.

So, sorry if I disappointed some of you with my BIG secret...but I am so stinkin' excited for this weekend...and already a little sad about what I will look forward to after it's all over...but for now, I'm ready to party!!
